Admissions & Application Process

The Master’s program Media and Political Communication is geared towards B.A. graduates of media and communication studies. Please note that its courses are mainly taught in German.

Due to the current situation, the application period for limited master degree programs will be changed for the winter semester 2020/21: May 04, 2020 – June 30, 2020.

Admission requirements

  • University degree which includes at least 60 ECTS in the field of media and communication studies (of which at least 10 ECTS were research methods)

  • Proof of language skills in German and English. German skills on a high level are an essential precondition for studying at our department as most of the study units of the master’s programs are taught in German. 

When applying, students need to prepare sufficient proof that both requirements are met. In case student’s Bachelor’s degrees do not have informed ties to the field of media and communication studies, an application for the Master’s program Media and Political Communication will not be successful. There are no exceptions from this rule.

Restricted Admissions

Like other higher education institutions in Germany that regularly receive large numbers of applications, Freie Universität Berlin has implemented Admission Limits (Numerus Clausus) for all Master's programs including Media and Political Communication.
