The Professorship for Political Science with a focus on International Relations primarily deals with the comparative analysis of global or regional international organizations (IOs), regime complexity, and explanatory research on international norms and international negotiations. A particular focus is placed on theory-driven, methodologically rigorous empirical analysis. The Professorship in Political Science with a focus on International Relations also includes the following externally funded projects:
“The withdrawal of states from regional organizations. A comparative analysis” (funded by the German Research Foundation – DFG)
“Performances of forest governance in regional regimes – A comprehensive, comparative analysis” (joint project with Prof. Dr. Daniela Kleinschmid, University of Freiburg, funded by the DFG)
“The secret life-changes of norms: A comprehensive analysis of norm change” (together with Prof. Dr. Ulrich Petersohn, University of Liverpool, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council – ESRC)
Duties:
Support in the preparation and follow-up of the Chair’s teaching activities in German and English (including Blackboard, literature research, e-learning, etc.)
Support for the Chair’s research, in particular for the specific projects of the Chair’s academic staff. This particularly involves assisting the research activities of these academic staff members in German and English (including literature research and organization, managing literature in EndNote, research tasks such as public database searches, and entering data into datasets using Stata or R).
Support for the administrative self-management of the Professorship (e.g., research tasks).
Desired qualifications:
Knowledge in Political Science
Very good knowledge of International Relations and international organizations (IOs)
Very good written and spoken German and English skills (B2)
Outstanding methodological skills (qualitative and/or quantitative) and the ability to use relevant software (mostly MaxQDA for qualitative work and Stata for quantitative contributions)
Interest in global and regional IOs
Communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a structured manner, as well as teamwork skills and flexibility
