Working Paper No. 08: Zwischen Mobilisierung und Immobilisierung. Subjektivitäten transnationaler Migrant_innen aus Indonesien

Das Working Paper untersucht, wie sich transnationale Migrant_innen aus Indonesien ins Verhältnis zu dominanten Diskursen im Kontext indonesischer Arbeitsmigration setzen. Es analysiert drei biographisch-narrative Interviews mit indonesischen Migrantinnen nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Ostjava, Indonesien. Die untersuchten Subjektivierungsprozesse finden innerhalb des Kontexts der Kontrolle der Mobilität statt: Indonesien ist eines der wichtigsten Entsendeländer transnationaler Care-Arbeiter_innen weltweit. Das Besondere der (zirkulären) Migration indonesischer Care-Arbeiter_innen ist, dass sie mehrheitlich durch ein staatliches Entsendeprogramm organisiert wird, durch das Migrant_innen angeworben, in Trainingscamps vorbereitet, in Haushalte vermittelt werden und ihre Rückkehr organisiert wird. Die Migrant_innen werden während der Rekrutierungs-, Vermittlungs- und Rückkehrprozesse mobil gemacht, und gleichzeitig wird ihre Bewegungsfreiheit beschränkt und streng kontrolliert. Mobilisierung und Immobilisierung der Migrant_innen gehen dabei einher mit Diskursen zu bestimmten Migrantinnenfiguren, die sich in den Erzählungen der interviewten Migrant_innen widerspiegeln und zugleich brechen.
The Working Paper explores how transnational migrants from Indonesia relate to dominant discourses in the context of labour migration. It analyses three biographical-narrative interviews with migrants after their return to East Java, Indonesia. The analysed processes of subjectification take place in a context of the control of mobility: Indonesia is globally one the most important sending states of transnational domestic workers. The particularity of the (circular) migration of Indonesian domestic workers is its organisation through a state-based labour brokerage programme. Through this programme migrant workers are recruited, prepared in training camps, placed in households as their workplaces abroad, and finally their return is organised. During the processes of recruitment, placement and return, migrant workers are mobilised, and at the same time their freedom of movement is constrained and strictly controlled. The mobilisation and immobilisation goes parallel with discourses on specific migrant worker tropes, which are reflected and at the same time ruptured in the narrations of the interviewed migrants.
