Youth Election Study 2019 Brandenburg and Saxony

Funding:

Otto Brenner Stiftung

The starting point of the project is the debate about a possible lowering of the voting age from 18 to 16, which has been controversially discussed in public as well as in academia. The aim of the research project is to analyse political attitudes and behavioural intentions of young people, using the concurrent state elections in the neighbouring federal states of Brandenburg and Saxony. These elections that took place on September 1, 2019, provide an intriguing case for the study of conditions and consequences of voting ages, as the voting age in Brandenburg is lower (16) than in Saxony (18). The research project rests on a post-election survey in both states, in which about 6.600 people took part. The project is funded by the Otto-Brenner-Foundation.
