New Paper: Poll Readings after the Elections in Hessen 2018 in the ZParl

News from Aug 08, 2019

In the latest edition of the “Zeitschrift für Parlamentsfragen“ Thorsten Faas and Marc Debus (University of Mannheim) analyze the Hessian state legislature election from October 28, 2018 and the subsequent follow-up of the black - green coalition under the minister president Volker Bouffier (CDU).

The campaign, the election outcome, as well as the subsequent formation of the government are examined into detail. In addition, more questions are asked, such as: what distinguished the Hessian state legislature election from October 28, 2018 from other elections, what role played the signals from the Republic at the Hessian elections. Was the Hessian party system more polarized than in 2013, and if so, how can we explain the follow-up of the black – green coalition? Furthermore, how did the inconsistency by the counting of the votes affect the following formation of the government?
