Climate and energy crisis: The power of municipalities (Krisma)
At the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015, the goal was set to limit global warming to below two degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial era and, if possible, to 1.5 degrees Celsius. However, the implementation of this target has been insufficient, and greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise worldwide. More than a hundred German municipalities (counties, cities, communities and city districts) have therefore declared a "climate emergency." In the spirit of power "from below," they are striving for greater sustainability. However, the narrative of the climate crisis is increasingly competing with the narrative of the energy crisis. Only occasionally do efforts to achieve greater independence from Russian gas succeed in reconciling the two narratives. The goal of Krisma is to develop a proposal for a project that traces such narratives in connection with the power of communities in order to find innovative ways to confront the climate and energy crises together.
