Professor Kathrin Zippel takes on an Einstein Strategic Professorship at the Institute of Sociology

The Institute of Sociology is most happy to welcome the renowned researcher Kathrin Zippel as a new member of faculty.

Being awarded an Einstein Strategic Professorship by the Einstein Foundation Berlin, Kathrin Zippel takes on a new Professorship in Sociology with a special focus on Gender Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. From 2001 to 2022 she was a Professor of Sociology at Northeastern University in Boston, USA. She also taught at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Kathrin specializes in gender, work and organizations, political sociology, science and technology, comparative sociology (US-Europe), and globalization.

Einstein Strategic Professorships are recruitments of leading researchers from abroad, funded by the Einstein Foundation Berlin, to strengthen Berlin’s position as a center of science.

In the upcoming winter semester, Kathrin will teach the main seminar “Gender, Knowledge, Science, and Power” and a colloquium in the master’s program “Sociology – European Societies”.
