5. Treffen: Workshop "Decolonizing University"

20.06.2023 | 18:00 c.t. - 20:00

"As some of you may have already noticed, there is a new workshop-seminar at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at Freie University Berlin, called Decolonizing University. We are an interdisciplinary group of people at different points in their studies. We came together with the common goal of networking and generating resources to achieve a broader understanding of racist and colonial structures in the institution university and to develop strategies to deconstruct and overcome them.

The seminar will take place every two weeks during SoSe2023. You are very welcome to join us permanently, or just drop in for a meeting or two. The sessions will be a mix of discussions, readings, and lectures by scholars working on decolonial issues. The Decolonizing University workshop is an open space for anyone who wants to get involved. All are welcome to participate, discuss, and actively shape the seminar with their ideas.

While the specific curriculum will be developed with the entire group over the course of the semester, we are already excited to announce that there will be presentations by two doctoral students at FU Berlin:

May 23. Tirthankar Chakraborty with a presentation on the ontology of the racialized fieldworker in the global South.

July 04. Laibor Moko Kalanger from SFB 1171 Affective Societies on his collaborative provenance research in Tanzania.

If you would like to join us, get in touch at m.wirth@fu-berlin.de or s.sturm@fu-berlin.de or come to our meetings starting Tuesday, 25. 6:00 pm at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at Landoltweg 9-11.
