The project aims at a classification of science programmes in Europe and its perception by different sections of the European public.The work is divided into three parts.
1. AVSA describes what science, and in what amounts, is actually communicated by science programmes in Europe; trends or results, relevant scientific expertise concerning current non-scientific subject matters, more or less established scientific findings, concepts or theories that are transmitted in a costly way, or scientific explanations with regard to assumed every day needs of the public.
2. AVSA links the classification of science programmes with their use by recipients. It is intended to clarify, how many people from different sections of the European public do perceive science programmes. It is expected that our approach will identify structural lacks with regard to the type of science journalism that is perceived by the public. That means that our approach will provide data that helps to assess, in which parts of Europe for instance young people perceive current scientific findings and in which parts not, although this type of science programme is offered.
3. AVSA links science programmes with judgements of focus groups that will help to assess, how different sections of the European public perceive, what about science is offered by science programmes. Our approach will help to explain why for instance young people in different parts of Europe prefer different types of science programmes respectively why the same type of science programmes is judged differently by certain sections of the European public.
