Austauschseminar mit der Universität Kairo im Wintersemester 2012/13
The project provided ten students of Cairo University an opportunity to take part in an exchange with students from Freie Universität Berlin in November 2012. The return exchange took place in January 2013 in Cairo. The student exchange seminars were overseen by Ilka Eickhof from Freie Universität Berlin and Dr. Osama Saleh from Cairo University.
Each seminar comprised of a preparatory session where students worked in groups of 2-3, discussion sessions, assignments of collaborative group papers on topics developed in lecturer-facilitated group discussions, and presentations of their research findings with the aid of visualized poster presentations. The seminars also included a keynote speech and discussion session on the political transition in Tunisia and the region with Prof. Dr. Mohamed Kerrou of University from the University of Tunis El-Manar. In each of the exchange seminars, students from the host university played an active role in the preparation of a lively and diverse programme for visiting exchange students. The seminar culminated in a public event organized with and on the premises of the DAAD country office in Cairo, Egypt. A crucial factor for success was – next to the enthusiasm of students and professors – the fact that the seminar offered the opportunity to engage in a more long-term conversation and interaction.
