The Division conducts research and teaching on the digitalization of media,
public sphere, and journalism. Its work focuses on expanding opportunities
for citizen participation on digital platforms and the question of what
mediation services are necessary to ensure the quality of public
communication.
Research topics include the digitalization of media systems in non-Western
countries, the digital transformation of the knowledge order, the digital
development of public service broadcasting, and issues of internet governance. The
center cooperates with the research group Digital News Dynamics
at the Weizenbaum Institute.
