The Environmental Policy Research Centre (FFU) at the Freie Universität Berlin works on comparative and international analyses of environmental and sustainability policy. The announced position will be located at the working group “policy assessment” led by Dr. Klaus Jacob. Throughout numerous projects the working group developed a comprehensive competency regarding several topics on environmental policy and connects basic and applied research.

The project “Social cohesion, food and health. Inclusive food system transitions” funded by the Berlin University Alliance will study the relation between transformation processes in the food system and social cohesion. We hire a PostDoc at a working time of 60% of regular employment scope. An extension of the employment scope as part of further third-party funded projects is possible. The option for academic qualification will be given.

Area of duty:
The successful applicant will be assigned the following duties:
* review the state of relevant research and collaborate on the conceptual framework, especially indicators for social cohesion
* conduct discourse analyses on the project topic
* develop qualitative environment scenarios
* collaborate on a case study on one food system innovation
* collaborate on a reality lab for developing and testing food system innovations
* collaborate on academic publications on the project results

Requirements:
* doctorate graduation within a relevant subject (politics, sociology, economics, or similar)
* fluent in German and English
* eligible concerning the maximum employment extent in the second qualification phase

Desired experiences:
* knowledge of transformation theory, social cohesion and/or food systems
* knowledge of indicators of social cohesion
* experience with the conduction of discourse analyses
* experience with the participatory development of qualitative environment scenarios
* knowledge of qualitative social research methods
* experiences with trans- and interdisciplinary research projects, especially conception and conduction of reality labs
* academic publications about the aforementioned topics
* experiences with the administration of third-party funded projects
