Collaborative Research Center (CRC 1171) „Affective Societies“ has been extend for four years

News from May 27, 2019

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) has extended the funding of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC 1171) „Affective Societies“ for a second term from 2019 until 2023. Headed by Prof. Margreth Lünenborg, the division of Journalism Studies will conduct the research project “Journalism and the order of emotions”. This project will focus the question how journalism, which is obligated to the norm of neutral reporting, produces emotions and makes them visible in public discourse. This will be examined by analyzing audiovisual reporting on migration since 1990. Besides professional journalism, parajournalistic formats like videos on YouTube will be studied. We will examine which affective dynamics become visible in media formats themselves and in the interaction with the users.

Part of the research project is a cooperation with the non-profit association Neue Deutsche Medienmacher (New German Media Professionals) and the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic Education) to make selected results accessible in multimedia formats to a non-scientific audience.
