In her article about the media reaction to the so-called "Rainbow Flag-case" in Egypt (2017), Ricarda Ameling exemplifies how the media promoted and supported a self-legitimising gendered nationalism through generating power by re-establishing heteronormative identities and how the crackdown, repression, and discourse aim to restore the patriarchal order after the Egyptian revolution in 2011.
